They do get hot but surely you could get chair pads for them in summer time or just any cushion I have painted metal ones and they never get so hot you can't sit on them (but I know what you mean, the ones abroad are a killer when you forget it's red hot!) x Aluminum furniture does get hot when it's under direct sunlight.
